Allen Tang

Through intensive research and experiments, Allen Tang redevelops a break-through technique beyond the barrier of “Oil on canvas”. By blending his own concoction of chemical paints, he creates the effects and textures so desired. The proportion of the mixtures and layering of colours is the key for the success of the art piece.

While Allen’s technique is inimitable, his painting style is exceptional. Seeking inspiration from still life and surrounding landscape, he deliberately detaches his depictions from details and real forms through the use of pure artistic elements like lines and colours, liberating his expression from mere “similarity in form” or “semblance of nature”. It visualises a delicate transformation of colour layers, from diaphanous to compact.

Allen’s creative works began to reach their summit in recent years. As he underwent this new creative genesis, Allen moved beyond the abstract vitality of imagination and set about to look at the world in a different perspective. He started to investigate the laws and variations of nature in an abstract, artistic way – expressive abstraction. Allen began to draw inspiration from a thematic universe, nature and the energies of life, by which he produced a series of works featuring the five elements; metal, wood, water, fire and earth.

Allen’s art is fully dynamic, tensely packed with three dimensionality and layering effects. He depict winds, feeling of movement, lives within objects, the way colours disperse and merge the vital energies release by all living beings to create a new world with infinite artistic possibilities.
